Lo Dev Alm

Lo Dev Alm is the name of the solo project of Daniele Pagliero, musician and software designer from Torino, Italy.

Background

Born and raised in Turin, Italy, Daniele began his musical journey as an independent artist in 1993. His early work focused on situationist noise improvisation, industrial electronic experimentation, and noise-rock. During this period, he played a range of instruments, with a particular interest in bass guitar, synthesizers, and samplers.

His first band was Amoniaka, a high school project in which he played bass. He later joined Whip, playing guitar and programming drum machines alongside Daniele Brusaschetto.

In the late 1990s, Daniele expanded his musical foundation by studying jazz piano and working as a sound engineer for Larsen and Daniele Brusaschetto. He also collaborated with both on music projects and productions. Simultaneously, he played electric bass guitar with Scumcide, a band immersed in the extreme genres of hardcore, grindcore, and crust.

In 1998, he launched the Lo Dev Alm (Low Device Alarm) project, which released its first EP in 2000, followed by several other releases. Around this time, he became active in non-conventional and improvised music scenes, performing with various groups.

In 1999, he took part in the Biennial Festival of Venice with the Setola di Maiale Unit. Over the years, he has played with artists such as Stefano Giust, Evan Parker, Michele Anelli, Dominik Gawara, and Ivan Pilat, and contributed to numerous releases on the Italian label Setola Di Maiale, often performing live electronics alongside free jazz ensembles.

In the early 2000s, Daniele continued exploring hybrid musical forms. He collaborated with the notable 90s hardcore band Frammenti, enriching their post-punk sound with keyboards. In 2004, he supported Larsen in the Cartonianimalettimatti project, playing electric bass guitar and recording the soundtrack for Windsor McCay's Cartonianimalettimatti, presented at various art and film festivals.

In November 2006, Daniele co-founded the netlabel Chew-Z with Fabio Battistetti, aiming to promote non-conventional artists focused on sound research and experimentation.

By 2010, he had joined Fabrizio Modonese Palumbo's (r) project and co-founded Space Aliens From Outer Space with Paul Beauchamp. These projects led to multiple releases under different labels and tours across Europe, opening for acts such as Xiu Xiu, Six Organs Of Admittance, Swans, and more.

Continuing his collaborative path, Daniele founded the band Coypu together with Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance), Fabrizio Modonese Palumbo, and Paul Beauchamp. The band released both a CD and LP under the MIE Music label.

After many years focused primarily on electronic music, Daniele returned to playing bass in 2019, joining the new trio incarnation of Daniele Brusaschetto. Their collaboration led to the 2023 album Bruise A Shadow, released by Wormholedeath Label.

In July 2023, Daniele was invited to participate in the music residency "La Fortezza del Suono", organized by the NOMA collective. He joined forces with Alessandra Laganà, Tommaso Marletta, Alberto Novello, Gabriele Mitelli, and Stefano Giust for the event.

Alongside his musical endeavors, Daniele works as a software designer and multimedia application developer in Turin, where he currently resides.

Musical Approach

Daniele's work explores the intersection of noise, sampled electronics, and industrial environments. Rooted in a situationalist approach, his music transforms mechanical warnings, radio interference, and sonic debris into structured acts of protest and reflection. Machines are not just tools—they are subjects, spaces, and collaborators in a vision of everyday dissonance.
